Dell’Arte Professional Training Program

The Professional Training Program (October 2022 – June 2023) is a one-year journey into the realm of actor-created theatre. PTP begins with foundational training in physical awareness, play, movement, a variety of global dance forms, and the FM Alexander Technique. The Program continues with an in-depth study of Mask, Commedia Dell’Arte, Heightened Acting and Clown. The training incorporates the exploration of theatre dynamics, character, relationship, and the actor’s use of space and time. With ongoing research into the collaborative process of theatre devising, the students are given weekly assignments presented in “Performance Lab”. These lab assignments are explorations of class content as well as an opportunity to generate original work in ensemble.

Dell’Arte’s PTP develops the students’ capacity to work in Community-Based Art along with forming relationships with various schools and community groups in Humboldt, Mendocino and the surrounding area. Throughout the year, students work in collaboration with these communities building relation ships and furthering their understanding of Theatre of Place. These experiences culminate in the Rural Residency program, where students enter a full residential partnership for two weeks in May.
